MILES of Freedom is committed to providing a hands-on experience for undergraduate and graduate students studying Communications, Nonprofit Management, Public Health, Nutrition, Social Work, or other Human Services studies.

Food Pantry Intern – Miles of Freedom (MOF)

Location: Dallas, TX (On-site with some flexibility)

Position Type: Internship (Unpaid, with potential for academic credit)

Hours: Flexible, 10-20 hours per week

Position Overview:

The Food Pantry Intern will support the operations and growth of MOF’s MLK Food Pantry which plays a crucial role in improving food access for communities impacted by incarceration and poverty. This internship is designed to give students hands-on experience in public health practice, while addressing key social determinants of health, including food insecurity, economic stability, and community wellness.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the organization and distribution of fresh produce and pantry items.
  • Support inventory management, restocking, and data tracking for pantry services.
  • Engage with participants to provide resource referrals related to nutrition, health services, and employment.
  • Collect and analyze feedback from food pantry participants to help assess community needs.
  • Help coordinate community health education activities tied to food security and wellness.
  • Collaborate with MOF staff and volunteers to maintain a welcoming and efficient pantry environment.
  • Participate in community outreach to increase awareness of MOF’s food programs and services.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s-level program (Public Health, Nutrition, Social Work, or related field).
  • Interest in health equity, food justice, and community-driven solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Organized, reliable, and able to lift 15-20 lbs. occasionally during food distribution.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus but not required.

Supervision & Partnerships:

  • Interns are supervised by MOF Program Staff.
    • No stipends are available at this time.
    • Formal partnerships with Texas Woman’s University (TWU), Dallas College, and Texas A&M University–Commerce.
    • Previous interns have also come from UT Arlington, UNT Dallas, and Our Lady of the Lake University.

Social Work or Human Services Intern – Miles of Freedom (MOF)

Location: Dallas, TX

Position Type: Internship (Unpaid, with potential for academic credit)

Hours: Minimum 3 days a week during normal business hours

Position Overview:

The Social Work Intern will play an essential role in supporting MOF’s mission by assisting with direct services, resource coordination, and program support for individuals returning home from incarceration. This hands-on opportunity is ideal for students seeking real-world experience in community-based social work, reentry services, and nonprofit operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist Case Managers with client intakes, needs assessments, and goal planning.
  • Provide resource navigation support (housing, employment, healthcare, education).
  • Maintain accurate documentation and case notes in accordance with organizational guidelines.
  • Participate in client workshops, support groups, and outreach events.
  • Collaborate with MOF staff to coordinate referrals and follow-ups with community partners.
  • Support special projects, such as program development, advocacy initiatives, or data collection.
  • Attend team meetings and contribute to service planning discussions.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a Social Work program (or related field).
  • Passionate about social justice, reentry work, and community empowerment.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Highly organized with attention to detail and confidentiality.
  • Self-starter who is comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
  • Spanish-speaking a plus but not required.

Supervision & Partnerships:

  • Interns are directly supervised by a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW).
    • No stipends are available at this time.
    • Ongoing partnerships with Dallas College and Texas A&M University–Commerce.
    • Previous interns have come from UT Arlington, UNT Dallas, and Our Lady of the Lake University.

Fundraising & Marketing Intern – Miles of Freedom (MOF)

Location: Dallas, TX (Hybrid opportunities available)

Position Type: Internship (Unpaid, with potential for academic credit)

Hours: Flexible, 10-20 hours per week

Position Overview:

The Fundraising & Marketing Intern will support MOF’s mission by assisting with donor engagement, fundraising initiatives, and communication strategies to amplify the organization’s impact. This role is perfect for students interested in nonprofit development, digital marketing, community outreach, and social justice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with planning and execution of fundraising campaigns and special events.
  • Conduct research on potential donors, grants, and partnership opportunities.
  • Create and schedule content for MOF’s social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.).
  • Support email marketing, newsletters, and donor communications.
  • Help maintain and update donor databases and records.
  • Collaborate with the team on storytelling projects to highlight participant success stories.
  • Provide administrative support for fundraising and marketing tasks as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s-level program (Marketing, Communications, Nonprofit Management, or related field).
  • Passionate about social justice, reentry work, and community empowerment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable using social media platforms and basic design tools (such as Canva).
  • Highly organized with attention to detail.
  • Creative, self-motivated, and eager to contribute ideas.

  • Interns are directly supervised by MOF’s Development Team and Leadership.
    • No stipends are available at this time.
